One day years ago, I was really upset and mad at God and in the midst of throwing a fit, I fell to the floor in tears, alone in my room.

I knew my attitude was wrong but I was hurting. Then as I realized that God was BIG and I was little - He could pretty much snuff me out like a tiny ant if He wanted - I was convicted of my sin and in brokeness I asked Him to forgive me.

It felt like I had been in a dark cave with no light at all and in fear, I quickly looked around to find a way of escape. Then out of the corner of my eye, I saw a small flicker of a light off to the side. As I turned to the light, it grew brighter. Relieved, I knew this was the way out!

A small still voice within me said, "If you keep your eyes on me, I will bring you into the light, but if you take your eyes off me, you will be groping in the dark with no way out." I knew this was my LORD Jesus Christ speaking to me.

Over the years, like then and now, these words have brought great comfort and encouragement to me. Today, I hope they bless you.

In 1 John 1, the Word of God says, "God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth: But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin. If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us."

WHAT'S THE ANSWER?
Today a friend emailed, "It must be tough on you to have all this weigh heavily on your mind all the time. The amount of time you spend finding all this must be overwhelming and demoralizing. How do we trudge along our way with so many obstacles in our path but still manage to lead somewhat good lives without any injuries?"

Yeah, the news is bad for sure and in the past, I simply looked the other way when I heard/read about it.

However, now I realize that behaviour has probably added to the mess in which we find ourselves.

But what can be done??

As a former Hewlett-Packard employee (1984-1999), I enjoyed working for this well-respected company, known for "The HP Way" of taking good care of its employees.

However, today we read disturbing scandalous headlines saying, Hewlett-Packard dumps chair in spy scandal fallout.

It says HP's board engaged the services of private detective agencies to obtain phone records of board members, staff, and nine journalists by using the illegal act of "pretexting", a tatic of investigators pretending to be the individuals targeted, quoting their social security numbers and private details to obtain call details from telephone companies.

Ironically, this year HP was named "Most Trusted Company for Privacy in the United States" by TRUSTe and Ponemon Institute, an award that recognizes HP for establishing and enforcing progressive privacy practices that build a high level of consumer trust.

This sad commentary on Hewlett-Packard and its new HP Way reminds us that we must not put our trust in companies, nor in people, governments, riches, nor anything of this world, but rather, Proverbs 3 tells us to trust in the LORD. Where do you put your trust?

What Is A Born-Again Christian?

When a national survey was taken, it showed that about fifty percent of the American population claimed to be "born-again Christians." What is meant by the term "born-again Christian," and what is the understanding of those people who call themselves "born-again Christians?"

What Is a Christian?

The term "Christian" comes from the Greek word "christianos," which means Christ-man, or an adherent of Jesus Christ. In the Bible, this word was first used as a nickname, a term of reproach, because the believers must have given others a feeling that they were absolute for Christ. The apostle Peter used it later to remind the believers to stand firm for Christ and not be ashamed. Thus, a Christian is a person who is totally full of Christ, occupied by Christ, living for Christ, living out Christ to express Christ, and even living Christ. By this definition, most people who call themselves Christians actually are not. They might have believed and received Christ, yet they are not living as adherents of Christ.

Who Is Christ?

The name "Christ" (translated from the Hebrew word for Messiah) means the anointed One. Christ was anointed with a special commission. In Genesis, God had created man to contain Him as life and to be one with Him. However, instead of taking God as life, man took in Satan and was defiled, corrupted, and condemned to die eternally. The Old Testament progressively reveals that, because He loved the man whom He created, God wanted to redeem man from the righteous judgment due to sin, save man from the corruption of Satan in his nature, be man's life, and build man up as His living house, His dwelling place in spirit, so that God and man could be one forever. Christ was anointed to accomplish this commission. A Christian is part of Christ, His continuation and increase. A Christian is someone who has been anointed together with Him to fulfill His commission in union with Him. Together, all Christians corporately are the enlarged Christ.

Who Is Jesus?

The Bible tells us that, in fulfilling this commission, Christ became a man named Jesus approximately two thousand years ago. "Jesus" means Jehovah our Savior, our salvation. "Jehovah" is the ever-existing God. Jehovah is the name God used before He became a man. After He became a man, He used the name Jesus. To us, Jehovah is the God of heaven sitting on the throne, whereas Jesus is Jehovah becoming a man to be our Savior, not only to die for us on the cross, to save us from our sins and from eternal perdition, but also to save us as our life inside from the corruption of Satan, saving us into Himself as our salvation and our dwelling place. The Christ into whom Christians believe and to whom they are joined as one is this crucified, resurrected, and exalted God-man, Jesus.

What Did Jesus Do for Us?

Christ Jesus lived a genuine and perfect human life to express God. He went to the cross to die for man because He was the only man throughout history qualified to be a substitute. The righteous One died for the unrighteous ones. He also crushed Satan to free man from his power of darkness. He resurrected on the third day to become a life-giving Spirit. He prepared Himself and made Himself available to man as life. He removed the sin that man should not have had. He redeemed man and prepared him as a cleansed vessel. Now He wants to give man the life he needs. All man has to do is to receive His salvation and take Him as life.

First Birth versus Second Birth

From our physical birth by our human parents, we have a dying physical body; a corrupted psychological organ (the soul), consisting of the mind, emotion, and will; and a spirit that is dead and incapable of contacting God. By receiving Christ as our Savior, we are born of God. The Spirit of God comes into our human spirit to regenerate it, enliven it, with the life of God. This is to be born again. First we are born of our parents, then we are born of God. The first birth gives us the opportunity to have the second birth. The first birth produces us as a dirty vessel; the second birth cleanses us and fills us with the divine and eternal life of God. The first birth destines us to die; the second birth results in life eternal. In the first birth we are cursed, but in the second we are blessed, not with material riches but with God.

A born-again Christian, therefore, is a person who has made his beginning, receiving Christ as his new life in his spirit. Every genuine Christian is a born-again Christian, and once a person has been born again he can never lose this divine life within him. As he continues by living as a Christ-man, his thoughts, his speech, and his deeds become those which are out from Christ, in Christ, for Christ, and expressing Christ.

How to be Born Again

If you sense the oldness and deadness, the emptiness and vanity, the confusion and frustration, and the tragic destiny of the first life, you need Jesus. Only He can enliven you by bringing the life of God into you to give you a new birth, a new life. Only thus can you be born again to be a Christian, a Christ-man, an adherent of Jesus Christ, full of life, joy, peace, rest, purpose, and fulfillment in God.

Say to Him boldly, "Lord Jesus, I need You as my Savior. Save me from eternal death. Give me God's life. I want to be born again of God. Make me a Christian." Then you will receive the life of God to make you a born-again Christian.

I thought you may want to know why I call myself a Christian.

Like many, I made some really dumb decisions as a young adult and while living the hippie scene in Southern California, I got some bad drugs and ended up in a mental hospital and they told my family I would never be normal again. Amazingly, I got better and was out after a few months.

As I continued in this wild and careless lifestyle, I became pregnant. Out of selfishness and shame, I chose to get an abortion which was a horrible experience even though at the time, I thought it was the best thing to do.

A few years later, I got married and had a baby. I loved being a mother but the marriage had big problems because my husband and I both had big problems.

Over the years, I had been searching for... not sure for what, but I kept looking and tried everything from religion to drugs to relationships... every path I searched left me empty. Not understanding much about Christianity, when a friend told me about Jesus, I didn't think much of it because I thought I was a Christian.

One day, after watching real Christians on a tv program, I realized that I wanted what they had. So alone in my living room, I got on my knees and asked Jesus to forgive me of my sin and come into my heart and be Lord of my life.

During the following few days, I knew something had changed in me. It was like I had been in a deep, dark pit and only when I looked straight up, could I see a small blue dot; everything else was black. Then it was as if Jesus lifted me out and put me on top of a mountaintop where I could see clear, blue skies for the first time in my life - amazing! Plus, I had peace and joy like never before AND I couldn't put the Bible down. Up until then, I couldn't get past the first couple of chapters of Genesis. I learned that Jesus washed all my sin away by his blood when he died on the cross. Then after three days, he rose from the dead - a giant miracle!

My desire to do drugs left immediately and I even noticed I stopped using profanity. Whenever I thought about Jesus dying for me, I would cry - He was healing me from the inside out!

In spite of my changed life and being blessed with another child, my marriage got worse and divorce came few years later.

As a single parent, the Lord was my strength.

Once my kids grew up and moved out, I decided to leave my corporate job in Atlanta, move to Florida, and go to Bible School. $35,000 in debt, I stepped out in faith and trusted God. Guess what? Less than two years later I was debt free and living my dream being a missionary - another miracle!

Now back in the USA, I desire to see people find true freedom through a personal relationship Jesus Christ. God loves us so much that he sent his one and only Son that whosoever believes in him will not perish but have eternal life - this is the Good News!

Allegations of severe torture have regularly emerged from Iraq

Torture may be worse now in Iraq than under former leader Saddam Hussein, the UN's chief anti-torture expert says.
Manfred Nowak said the situation in Iraq was "out of control", with abuses being committed by security forces, militia groups and anti-US insurgents.

Bodies found in the Baghdad morgue "often bear signs of severe torture", said the human rights office of the UN Assistance Mission in Iraq in a report.

The wounds confirmed reports given by refugees from Iraq, Mr Nowak said.

He told journalists at a briefing in Geneva that he had yet to visit Iraq, but he was able to base his information on autopsies and interviews with Iraqis in neighbouring Jordan.

"What most people tell you is that the situation as far as torture is concerned now in Iraq is totally out of hand," the Austrian law professor said.

"The situation is so bad many people say it is worse than it has been in the times of Saddam Hussein," he added.

Brutal methods

The UN report says detainees' bodies often show signs of beating using electrical cables, wounds in heads and genitals, broken legs and hands, electric and cigarette burns.

Bodies found at the Baghdad mortuary "often bear signs of severe torture including acid-induced injuries and burns caused by chemical substances".

Many bodies have missing skin, broken bones, back, hands and legs, missing eyes, missing teeth and wounds caused by power drills or nails, the UN report says.

Victims come from prisons run by US-led multinational forces as well as by the ministries of interior and defence and private militias, the report said.

The most brutal torture methods were employed by private militias, Mr Nowak told journalists.

The report also says the frequency of sectarian bloodletting means bodies are often found which "bear signs indicating that the victims have been brutally tortured before their extra-judicial execution".

It concludes that torture threatens "the very fabric of the country" as victims exact their own revenge and fuel further violence.

Mr Nowak said he would like to visit Iraq in person, but the current situation would not allow him to prepare an accurate report, because it would not be safe to leave Baghdad's heavily guarded Green Zone where the Iraqi government and US leadership are situated.

Today, a friend asked what I thought of Harry Potter. Having not read the books by J.K. Rowling, I can only comment on what I have read ABOUT them. Although they are fiction, I understand that the author uses very real descriptions of astrology, numerology, divination, mediumship, channeling, and crystal gazing which we are told in the Bible to avoid. (Deuteronomy 18:10)

One Christian author writes:
"[J.K] Rowling goes on to say that roughly one-third of the sorcery-related material appearing in her [Harry Potter] books 'are things that people genuinely used to believe in Britain.' What Rowling fails to mention is that a vast amount of the occult material she has borrowed from historical sources still plays a significant role in modern paganism and witchcraft. Consequently, her writings merge quite nicely with contemporary occultism. This could easily present a spiritual danger to children and teens, or even adults, who are either leaning toward occultism or who may be vulnerable to its attractions. When I lived in Germany, I was told that they had many witchcraft schools, and a friend showed me one. If you google "witchcraft" or "wicca", you can see how popular this has become these days. People want power but this is from a dangerous source. Why don't they turn to the TRUE source of power: Jesus Christ?

WATCH AND PRAY THAT YE ENTER NOT INTO TEMPTATION
And Peter remembered the word of Jesus, which said unto him, Before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice. And he went out, and wept bitterly.
Just days before his crucifiction (Matthew 26), Jesus told his disciples, "Ye shall be offended because of me this night: for it is written, I will smite the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock shall be scattered abroad. But after I am risen again, I will go before you into Galilee."

Peter immediately said he would never be offended by Jesus. However, Jesus told him, "Verily I say unto thee, That this night, before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice."

Later that same evening, Jesus went with Peter and two others to pray in the garden. When he found the disciples asleep, Jesus said, "What, could ye not watch with me one hour? Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak."

Later on after Jesus was arrested, Peter indeed was offended and denied Jesus three times.

We must take seriously the advice of Jesus who told Peter to WATCH AND PRAY THAT HE ENTER NOT INTO TEMPTATION. We must be alert and not sleep like Peter did in the garden.


The hour is late, dear reader, and we don't know what the future holds. May we each watch and pray in Jesus name that we indeed do not enter into temptation.

WHAT TO RENOUNCE

"...but have renounced the hidden things of dishonesty..." 2 Corinthians 4:2

Have you "renounced the hidden things of dishonesty" - the things that your sense of honour will not allow to come to the light?

You can easily hide them.

Is there a thought in your heart about anyone which you would not like to be dragged into the light?

Renounce it as soon as it springs up; renounce the whole thing until there is no hidden thing of dishonesty or craftiness about you.

Envy, jealousy, strife - these things arise not necessarily from the disposition of sin, but from the make-up of your body which was used for this kind of thing in days gone by (see Romans 6:19 and 1 Peter 4:1-2).

Maintain a continual watchfulness so that nothing of which you would be ashamed arises in your life. "Not walking in craftiness," that is, resorting to what will carry your point. This is a great snare.

You know that God will only let you work in one way, then be careful never to catch people the other way; God's blight will be upon you if you do.

Others are doing things which to you would be walking in craftiness, but it may not be so with them: God has given you another standpoint.

Never blunt the sense of your Utmost for His Highest.

For you to do a certain thing would mean the incoming of craftiness for an end other than the highest, and the blunting of the motive God has given you. Many have gone back because they are afraid of looking at things from God's standpoint.

The great crisis comes spiritually when a man has to emerge a bit farther on than the creed he has accepted.

In Matthew 5, 6, and 7, Jesus' Sermon on the Mount gives us good advice on how to live.

He concludes by saying, "Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock: And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock. And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand: And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it."

Is your house, your life, built on the the rock solid words of the Lord Jesus Christ? He shed his blood and gave his life for you. Now won't you give your life and heart to him today? True peace through forgiveness of sin only comes as your surrender your will to the Son of God in faith and obedience.

IS HISTORY REPEATING ITSELF: GERMANY THEN, AMERICA NOW?
