From 2002-2205 I lived in Berlin Germany as a Christian missionary as there were many atheists needing Jesus. I was shocked by the family who helped me in the beginning when the husband said his mother, alive then, still admired Hitler. So as I looked into this, I now see some disturbing similiarities between Hitler and the current president of the USA.
Germans often thought of him like a father. The Hitler Jugend, in particular, not realizing they’d be cannon fodder in a few years. When they were, many didn't mind. Everyone seemed furious over the 20 July 1944 plot.
Im sure not every German loved him, but every Nazi dedicated to his ideology thought he was a great man and at least respected him. The Reichs were built on strong, powerful leaders. Germans on the whole didn't trust democracy.
Those years from 1933 to 1939, Hitler seemed to bring prosperity to Germany. Hitler was actually preparing for war, but many refused to see that.
When Hitler blamed everything, as well as the war, on the Jews, many believed it or at least went along. No one believed in the deathcamps. They didn't think their beloved Fuhrer would allow such a thing.
They didn't want to know. They wanted to believe all the deportations and other deeds they saw, were about Jews being resettled and going somewhere to work.
Poland was an excellent place to put the Nazi deathcamps. That way Hitlers’followers didn't see his brutal genocide as easily, if at all.
As someone at the Nuremberg Trials said, “If they didn't know, it was because they didn't want to know.”
