My first trip overseas was to Israel, the only place I ever wanted to go after becoming a Christian. Then several years later, I was excited for another opportunity to visit the "holy land" once again. You see, like most American Christians, I believed the modern state created in 1948 as a homeland for Jews persecuted under the Nazis, as a replica of the spiritual Israel and I thought being a Christian Zionist was a good thing.
