Above is the detail of a relief on the Arch of Titus, Rome, AD 81, of the seven branch menorah from the Temple of Jerusalem being carried by Roman soldiers in AD 70.
Below is the nine branch Hanukkah menorah.
Today, the flag of Israel boldly displays a six pointed star or a hexagram which is a common symbol used in the occult (i.e. witchcraft, freemasonry).
Masonic hexagram
From The Legend of Hanukkah
Those who think that the hexagram is the real symbol of Israel - which is in fact the 7 candle menorah - are uninformed.
Even Judaic anti-missionaries suggest it came from Babylonian pagan worship, but in the same breath say that doesn't matter.
God is very clear. Isaiah 47:12-14 says, "Stand now with thine enchantments, and with the multitude of thy sorceries...if so be thou shalt be able to profit, if so be thou mayest prevail. Thou art wearied in the multitude of thy counsels. Let now the astrologers, the stargazers, the monthly prognosticators, stand up, and save thee from these things that shall come upon thee. Behold, they shall be as stubble; the fire shall burn them; they shall not deliver themselves from the power of the flame..."
Biblically, seven candlesticks, not nine, are a recognized God-given Jewish and Christian symbol:
- In Revelation 1:12-13 the seven golden candlesticks represent the seven churches filled with the Holy Spirit--the true Church because of the Holy Spirit.
- In the Old Testament, the seven candlesticks represent the sevenfold ministry of the Holy Spirit.
- Exodus 25:31-40 describes the making and appearance of what God decreed as Holy to himself. The candlestick for the Temple was to have six branches extending out of the sides with three on either side, Meaning a total of seven candles.
