Taste and see that the LORD is good!

THE CANDY CANE

There was once a candy maker who wanted to remind folks of the real meaning of Christmas, so he invented the candy cane.

The hard candy symbolizes Jesus Christ being the Rock of Ages.

The “J” shape is for Jesus.

Turned upside down, it is a shepherd’s staff as Jesus is the Good Shepherd who watches over his children like little lambs.

The white color represents the purity of Christ and his virgin birth.

The large red stripe symbolizes the blood Christ shed for the sin of the world.

The three thin red stripes signify the many stripes Jesus received on our behalf when the Roman soldiers whipped Him. Also it reminds us of the three nails used to crucify him on the cross and also of the trinity: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

The flavor is peppermint and is similar to hyssop which is an herb used in Old Testament times for purification and sacrifice.

So when looking at a candy cane, remember that the Lord Jesus Christ is the perfect Lamb of God who came as a sacrifice for our sins. Jesus died and rose back to life after 3 days and whoever believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life – this is the Good News!

O taste and see that LORD is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him.
Psalm 34:8
