US NAVY HELPS
Indonesian survivors rush to receive supplies from US Navy crewmen, Monday Jan. 3, 2005 at an isolated village south of Banda Aceh in northwest Indonesia. The United States has conducted the largest relief operation since the Vietnam war following last Sunday's earthquake-triggered tsunami catastrophe in Asia. However, some of the news media is again portraying America in a negative light. Here are the facts:
- Did you know that the people of the United States number only 5% of the world's population and yet this one nation, the most generous of all nations, gives 40% of ALL the humanitarian and relief aid given by the almost 200 nations on the globe? And if you include the money given directly by the United Nations for relief, most if which is extorted from the United States, by some estimates America gives 50% of ALL aid worldwide.
- Did you know that the $35 Million figure was the initial reaction of the United States at the time when about 5,000 were reported dead? As new reports have come in, and the magnitude of the disaster has become clearer, the money pledged by the US has risen to the current figure of $350 Million. According to US aid officials, that number is expected to eventually rise to $1 BILLION.
- Did you know that people who are experienced in disaster relief will tell you that resources are much more important than money? What good does it do anyone to have millions of dollars of food and medicine piling up in ports? The real need at this point is for men, women, and equipment to get the supplies to where they are needed, and the US is meeting that need. Other nations are tossing money at the problem while the US is "rolling up its sleeves" and DOING something. America is sending troops and aircraft to get the relief to the people before more die.

- Wußtest Du, daß die Bevölkerung der Vereinigten Staaten nur 5% der Weltbevölkerung ausmacht, aber dennoch diese eine Nation, die freigebigste aller Nationen, 40% ALLER humanitärer und Fürsorge-Hilfen gibt, die von den fast 200 Nationen auf dem Globus gegeben werden? Und wenn Du das Geld, das direkt von den Vereinten Nationen für Fürsorge gegeben wird mit berücksichtigst, dann ist der Schätzwert dessen, was den Vereinigten Staaten abgenötigt wird, von einigen, daß Amerika 50% ALLER weltweiten Hilfe gibt.

- Wußtest Du, daß Menschen, die Katasptrophenbeihilfe erlebt haben, Dir sagen würden, daß Ressourcen viel wichtiger sind als Geld? Was hilft es irgendjemandem, Millionen Dollar an Essen und Medizin in Häfen anzuhäufen? Die wirkliche Not zu diesem zeitpunk tist, für Männer, Frauen und Ausrüstung, die Vorräte dahin zu bekommen, wo sie gebraucht werden, und die USA begegnet dieser Not. Andere Nationen werfen Geld zu dem Problem, während die USA "die Ärmel hochkrempelt" und etwas TUT. Amerika sendet Truppen und Flugzeuge, um die Hilfen zu den Menschen zu schaffen, bevor mehr sterben.
